Houston, TX - The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council named BASF the winner of the 2010 CPI "Innovation Award," during closing session of the 2010 Technical Conference. The conference took place in Houston in conjunction with the UTECH North America exhibition. New this year, only one award was presented for the most innovative application in the polyurethanes industry.
BASF was selected for its "FilterPave Porous Pavement System," a post-consumer recycled glass and two-component polyurethane binder system for use in storm water management applications.
"The Polyurethane Innovation Award shines a well-deserved spotlight on the companies and individuals that have brought innovative new solutions to the marketplace," said Steve Russell, vice president, Plastics Division, American Chemistry Council.
Other finalists included King Industries for its "K-KAT Tin/Mercury Free Catalysts," and Nanotech Industries for its "Green Polyurethane" (also referred to as HNIPU).
A panel of judges representing a cross section of polyurethanes experience and knowledge evaluated and selected the finalists. Finalist entries were on display during the conference, where attendees had the chance to vote for those they believed showed the most innovative use of polyurethanes.
More than 750 influential scientists, engineers, manufacturers and business leaders from around the world attended the Polyurethanes 2010 Technical Conference, discussing and demonstrating innovations, advances and breakthroughs in polyurethane materials and technology.
