COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Fairfield County and the South Carolina Department of Commerce announced that Montana Biopolymers Inc. plans to produce eco-friendly polymers and related products in Fairfield County. The company plans to have the first production line ready for testing in April of 2011.
The biopolymers will be used to replace certain petrochemicals in everything from cosmetics to plastics. The company will continue to develop their line of adhesives that are already sold in environmentally conscious venues around the country.
"We appreciate the assistance from so many organizations whose personnel worked hard to bring together needed elements," said Joan Combie, CEO, Montana Biopolymers. "For example, Fairfield Economic Development Director, Tiffany Harrison, facilitated the location of a suitable site and is now engaged in the workforce search. Potential investors were impressed by the infrastructure and availability of technical expertise in the area."
"Montanta Biopolymers decision to invest and create new jobs in Fairfield County is another indication that our states business-friendly climate and skilled workforce provides the winning combination necessary to help businesses compete. This announcement is also a reminder that South Carolinas focus on the business fundamentals such as keeping taxes and regulatory burdens low continues to pay dividends in our ability to attract new investment and encourage growth among small businesses. We welcome Montana Biopolymers to Fairfield County and wish them much success in their endeavors here," said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce.
With added investment in a research and development component and additional production lines, Montana Biopolymers anticipates steady growth.
