Eastman Manufactures Compounded Cellulose Diacetate in China

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Eastman Chemical Company has entered into a joint venture with Mazzucchelli 1849 SPA for the manufacture of compounded cellulose diacetate in Shenzhen, China. Compounded cellulose diacetate (CDA) is a bio-derived material, which is used in various injection molded applications, including but not limited to ophthalmic frames, tool handles and other end use products. Eastman cellulosics are produced from 100 percent renewable softwood materials. Terms of the joint venture were not disclosed.

"It not only substantially enhances our ability to meet customers growing needs with locally produced CDA, but the combination of Eastmans high quality cellulose diacetate and Mazzucchellis reputation in the market as the premier innovator in the development and manufacture of CDA sheet for ophthalmic frames will enable our customers to grow additional regional demand for the materials."
