Research Triangle Park, N.C. -- Forbo Synthetic Polymers business unit of Forbo Adhesives, LLC has announced a price increase of US $0.03/wet pound for all vinyl acetate copolymer emulsion products sold in North America. The increase will be effective on October 1, 2011 and is in addition to all previously announced increases or freight surcharges.

The company cited the frequency and magnitude of escalation in the cost of key raw materials, energy costs, working capital, logistic and transportation cost increases throughout the year as needs for the increase. Contrary to expectations and forecast at the beginning of the year, these cost components have not decreased in magnitude. Although the polymer industry has implemented some increases in attempts to recover these costs, margins for synthetic polymers have not recovered to expectations in spite of improved demand.

"The cost for key raw materials has been unexpectedly volatile throughout the year, and logistical and transportation costs have risen dramatically in 2011," said Tim Northcutt, senior business director for the polymer business unit. "As a company we remain committed to maintaining reasonable margins that allow us to continue to invest in product technology and manufacturing resources to help meet customer needs."
