I am the Director of Materials Research at Michelin Americas Research Company in Greenville, SC.  I’ve been an Adhesion Society member since my grad school days at UCONN, where I studied with Jim Bell. What is the link between tires and adhesion you might ask….lots of interfaces.

Ken Shull
Ive been in the Materials Science Department at Northwestern University since 1993, working in the general areas of polymer interfaces, the mechanics of soft materials and adhesion.  Ive been coming to the Adhesion Society meetings for about ten years now, and have been impressed by the fact that its one of the few remaining meetings with both industrial and academic representations.  Its also quite egalitarian in that students and new attendees are quickly integrated into the overall flow of the meeting, making it a favored destination for my own students (the favorable locations also help!).  These are the aspects of the meeting that I would like to preserve, while ensuring that the most exciting and relevant emerging areas in adhesion science are represented.
