• First project house established outside of Germany，located in Hsinchu, Taiwan

Evonik Industries today announced the opening of its Advanced Project House (APH) “Light & Electronics” in Taiwan. The new APH is located in Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Hsinchu, one of Taiwans leading research institutes.

“As the first project house Evonik established outside of Germany, it is quite literally a big step for Evonik in innovation in Greater China and Asia，” commented Dr. Dahai Yu, member of Evonik’s Executive Board responsible for Asia at the opening ceremony held in ITRI, “The opening of the APH “Light & Electronics” is a new cornerstone for entering into new markets and globalization of R&D.”

“The market is constantly changing. With the APH in Taiwan, we aim to generate a link to the growing light and electronics industry in Asia, identify and realize new business opportunities through joint technical developments and close hands-on interactions with our customers.” says Patrik Wohlhauser, Member of the Executive Board responsible for innovation management.

Evonik evaluated technical and market success probability of potential project topics ranging from lighting, displays, touch panel, photovoltaic, LEDs and functional coatings. With its opening, several projects have been started up with the company’s business units and business lines commitments and supports. In addition, a New Business Development function will be built up to identify new business opportunities in the electronics industry. The start is with focus on Taiwan, mainland China and Korea.

“We are really glad to see that the construction of office and labs has been completed at ITRI even faster than planned. For us, ITRI is the best place to start, as it provides good infrastructure and condensed know-how platform, as well as the local network.” says Dr. Michael Cölle, head of the APH during the opening ceremony, “We have built up a technical team made up of local talents and the team will gradually increase according to the project needs in the future. We expect to continuously grow customer interaction and generate new business.”

Located in one of the world’s most important electronics markets, the APH finds a new way for Evonik to access the market. The APH is to give rise to a new R&D competence center for the Group in Asia.
