Sao Paulo -- "Your + in Innovation and Quality" is the theme of the Wacker booth at the 2012 Concrete Show South America. (Sao Paulo, Brazil, August 29 - 31, 2012) the trade show gives the Munich-based company a chance to present its innovative polymeric binders for a wide array of concrete building applications. Wackers product portfolio includes specialty polymers for infrastructural applications, hydrophobic dispersible polymer powders for dry renders and for external thermal insulation composite systems, and binders for high-quality, self-leveling flooring compounds that meet even the toughest environmental standards.
VINNAPAS dispersible polymer powders enhance the final product, by, for example, making it easier to process, improving its adhesive properties on all substrates, increasing its flexibility and flexural strength, and making it better able to resist weathering. These bene-fits make VINNAPAS ideally suited for sophisticated applications in concrete construction, such as renders and self-leveling compounds.
This will be the first time that Wacker has presented the new VINNAPAS LL 5111 L on the South American market. Developed for perfectly leveled surfaces, this dispersible polymer powder produces an extraordinarily smooth, even surface, while exhibiting considerable abrasion resistance, flexural strength, compressive strength and outstanding defoaming properties that yield exceptionally smooth surfaces without air pockets. The product also is highly forgiving when too much water is added, generating an outstanding stabilizing effect that prevents sedimentation and produces an even, bubble-free surface - even in the presence of excess water. Because it also complies with the latest environmental and safety standards, VINNAPAS LL 5111 L can be used for formulating self-leveling flooring compounds that meet strict environmental standards, such as those for EMICODE or Blue Angel certification. In other words, this new dispersible polymer powder is more than just an ideal binder for all selfleveling compounds - it also represents a sustainable solution for the future.
The VINNAPAS 5048 H and VINNAPAS LL 3030 H dispersible polymer powders round out the Wacker portfolio of hydrophobic copolymer dispersible powders for the construction industry. Based on vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymers (VAE) VINNAPAS 5048 H makes mortars more durable, reducing the amount of water they absorb while lending them excellent processing characteristics. The hydrophobic properties of VINNAPAS 5048 H are also so powerful that further hydrophobic additives are not generally needed. Its ability to improve mortar adhesion to even the most difficult surfaces (such as expanded polystyrene sheets and other organic substrates) makes this powder ideal for use in energy-saving, external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS).
Based on a patented vinyl chloride-ethylene copolymer (VCE) VINNAPAS LL 3030 H likewise achieves high marks for its out-standing adhesive properties. In addition to increasing hydrophobicity, this product also produces favorable mechanical properties in finished products: when used to improve grouts, for instance, VINNAPAS LL 3030 H eliminates the need for additional binder combinations, simpli-fying formulations and making manufacturing processes more reli-able. Plus, VINNAPAS LL 3030 H lends considerable hydrophobicity to skim coats, plasters and ETICS while at the same time generating excellent mechanical properties. In many cases, this allows manufac-turers to omit secondary work stages, which has a positive impact on the amount of time and money spent at the construction site.
At the Concrete Show South America, Wacker further presents ETONIS polymers for enhancing the sprayed concrete used in tunnel and road construction, mining, and special civil engineering applications. In tunnel construction applications, polymer-modified concrete is sprayed onto the tunnel walls, where its primary function is to consolidate loose rock as the tunnel is driven. At the same time, polymer-modified sprayed concrete also serves as a barrier against water seepage and reduces the amount of additives in the formula-tion. By improving adhesion, the polymer significantly reduces re-bound in concrete sprayed onto the tunnel wall, which, in turn, improves spray performance, reducing material consumption and the costs of transportation and disposal. ETONIS polymers speed up tunnel construction and reduce system costs immensely, thereby increasing the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of road, tunnel and underground construction projects.
