To address what current air barriers were lacking and deliver more of what architects need to design more sustainable buildings, Dow Corning Corporation ? a global leader in silicones and silicon-based technology and innovation with more than 40 years of experience in the construction industry - has introduced an air and water barrier system.
Evaluated by the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) the Dow Corning Silicone Air Barrier System is a suite of compatible high-performance silicone technologies designed to work together to better protect the entire building envelope and to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. The system has passed NFPA 285 and is NFPA Class A/UBC Class 1 per ASTM E84. It can be used on both new construction and building renovation projects, and its low-VOC formulation makes it ideal for green construction.
"We created the Dow Corning Silicone Air Barrier System to address the shortcomings of other air barrier systems on the market today ? systems that were unsatisfactory in terms of fire rating, durability or UV resistance; systems that required too many installation steps, were incompatible with other building envelope components or lacked technical support," said Dow Corning High Performance Building Marketing Manager Jim Stange.
"Design professionals and contractors have been asking for an air and water protection solution based on proven silicone technologies from a single supplier, and we are offering it," Stange said. "The true value stems not only from the quality of a fully compatible silicone solution, but also from the fact that it is backed by a full system warranty from Dow Corning."
