Henkel has introduced a new approach for repairing steel pipes and pipelines used to transport gas, water, crude oil, wastewater and other materials. The composite repair system was recently certified by DNV GL, one of the leading certification bodies, and meets all requirements of global quality standard ISO/TS 24817. The repair system makes use of corrosion inhibitor Loctite SF 7515, Loctite EA 3478 for cavity filling, and Loctite 5085 glass-carbon fiber tape impregnated with Loctite PC 7210, a temperature-resistant, two-part epoxy resin. Any repair is finished with sprayable ceramic topcoat Loctite PC 7255. Before this system was developed, cracks, holes, fractures and leaks would typically mean that a segment of pipe had to be replaced. That would mean high costs both in terms of the repair and in down time required during the repair. Henkel has developed a tailor-made training program so that their repair system can be properly implemented. To date more than 100 users have taken this training.
