Master Bond’s New Non-cytotoxic Epoxy Adhesive for Medical Device ManufacturingMaster Bond launches EP42HT-4AOMed Black, a new two-part biocompatible and non-cytotoxic epoxy adhesive for medical device manufacturing. The adhesive has good flow properties, which makes it suitable for bonding and sealing applications. The adhesive withstands aggressive chemical sterilant, radiation and repeated cycles of autoclaving. The adhesive has USP Class VI and ISO 10993-5 certifications.
Thermal Conductivity with Heat Resistance Properties
EP42HT-4AOMed Black offers cryogenic serviceability and heat resistance with a service temperature range from 4K to 400°F. The thermal conductivity measures 9-10 BTU•in/(ft2•hr•°F) and volume resistivity is greater than 1014 ohm-cm. The adhesive contains a filler, which contributes to high strength profile and dimensional stability.
EP42HT-4AOMed Black bonds well to metals, composites, glass, ceramics, rubbers and plastics. The adhesive features tensile modulus of 500,000-550,000 psi, a compressive strength of 24,000-26,000 psi, and tensile strength of 7,000-8,000 psi.
Adhesive Offers Low Shrinkage and Exotherm
The epoxy adhesive cures at room temperature and faster cures can be achieved by heat curing. Master Bond recommends overnight curing at room temperature, followed by heat curing at 150-200°F for two-three hours for optimal properties.
The mix ratio of the adhesive is 100 to 40 by weight. Upon curing, EP42HT-4AOMed Black exhibits low shrinkage and exotherm. The epoxy adhesive can be used for thick castings up to two-three inches. The opaque black epoxy adhesive is available in the following size kits, half a pint, pint, quart and gallon. The adhesive is also available in premixed and frozen syringes, compatible with automated dispensing equipment.
